Not the Madame Macron you're looking for

This is genuinely touching: Macron and Merkel meeting an elderly woman at the WWI memorial ceremony - the Guardian article says she is 100, so I assume she was born on Armistice Day or before it. So born in WW1, lived through WW2, and then to meet the French President and German Chancellor together for the centenary of the end of the war - and for things to be so changed that the woman with Macron is not his wife, as she initially assumes, but the German Chancellor. Some things do change.

Guardian article and the video:

This made me legitimately tear up. (Also I wonder if Angela Merkel's internal response to being mistaken for Brigitte Macron was'Still got it' because mine would have been)

I found the ceremonies both Saturday and Sunday moving. Especially as we're being made aware of how fragile the foundations of peace are when there are people who really don't care about it.

Trump didn't show at the Veteran's Day ceremonies here in the US today either. Not clear yet if it was health reasons or another tantrum.

I was away at the weekend so didn't really see much, but I mean to catch up with some of it. I recorded Peter Jackson's colourised footage thing and I definitely will be watching that.

I hadn't seen that about Trump not showing up again. Of course, both explanations could simultaneously be true...
