Grump. Weather

Given that I moan about never meeting new people (i.e. men), you'd have thought that nothing would have kept me away from the party I am supposed to be at this evening. Nothing but the fact that it is raining heavily, windy and cold, and my destination is an hour away, involving two buses and a walk in the middle, and I would spend as much time getting there and back as I would at my destination. Oh, and it's too far for a taxi.

This is ridiculous. I have a fortnight off work at Christmas, and will spend much of that at my parents' house. I think I may spend some of that time doing what I have oft talked of, and try to buy a car.

I think my (former) lack of a car has been a major obstacle in meeting people. I just hate going out in the cold and the rain on public transport, and having to worry about the last bus home, or paying a fortune in taxi-fares.

I just can't wait to get my license so that I can actually use my little fiesta for more than practicing!

Occasionally I think that I wouldn't use a car enough to justify having it - but I'm sure it wouldn't take me long to find uses. I've held a licence since I was 18, so it's just a question of getting over the terror of adulthood that is buying a car (quite possibly a fiesta!).

I wish I'd learnt when I was 18. It's a right pain not being able to drive, but I've never had chance before, being a perpetually poor student. I've been practicing lots, but I still feel like I'm shit!

I'm glad I did learn then - it took up a lot of birthdays and Christmas presents, but it was worth having done. I've generally lived in places where I don't need a car sufficient to justify keeping it in the drive, but I'm getting to the point now at which I reasonably often find myself inhibited by not having one and increasingly annoyed as a result.

Good luck with your learning.
