Damn you, Europe! Out of y/our rich history of slaughtering people in many and varied nations how do you manage not to have a war going on convenient to my purposes in the late 1920s? 1924 - 1934 is literally the sole empty period in the Wikipedia section of lists of conflicts in Europe in the C20. I thought I was safe with a random line that a character would have seen military service, but apparently not.

Random fact of the day (courtesy of Wikipedia: Lieutenant Józef Kowalski, of Poland, was the last known living survivor of the Polish-Soviet war of 1919-21. He was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta on his 110th birthday by the president of Poland. He died on 7 December 2013 at the age of 113.

There must be a colonial conflict, or a quasi-colonial conflict such as in South America...

Could that someone have served in the colonies and been involved in an attempted revolution or attack?
