Fortunately I think Cordelia probably would knock some sense into his head if she was allowed to be part of the plot; she'd have to be shuffled offstage by a six-year-long magnetic storm disrupting all communications to Sergyar or something for the story to play out.
I'm not sure he'd even have to revert to type, just get very focused on his Vor obligations and not pay enough attention to how those Vor obligations assume for themselves a framework where women only really come into focus when they're continuing a bloodline or being accused of adultery. And even if Cordelia was around to tell him off over that, I can't see even the most saintly and Cordelia-worshipping wife being particularly thrilled that he'd listen to his mother but not to her.
