Ooh Kven does not have the Finnish words for north-east, south-west, etc. and uses combinations of north and west etc. like normal people though its words for north and south are Finnish and its words for east and west are Scandinavian.
It's not that I don't appreciate the way Finnish has entirely different words for south-east, etc. I think it's great that they are totally separate concepts, it's just I can't remember which one is which because there isn't a slot for them in my head. My first Finnish teacher said just to remember that lounas was south-west because that's the most commonly used one because that's where everything comes from.
