Possibly not perfect Monday night TV after all...

There are certain sentences that can really put one off what sounds like an otherwise potentially interesting, if not particularly new,* television programme, and this was certainly one of them:

Helping the professor enthuse about the “non-trivial values” that made Athens great is Boris Johnson.

*I must write and suggest that maybe it is time for a programme about Angkor Wat. We've had a lot of Greece and Rome recently, and I fancy seeing something about different set of ruins for a change.

It has certainly taught me to actually read the listings. I was ambushed by Boris Johnson.

And I still haven't got round to i-Playing last week's (much better) programme on Ovid in Exile, that my mother phoned in the middle of. It gave me a whole new academic crush.

I vote for any ruin other than Boris Johnson.

He is everywhere. Eldest child got him as her person to research - homework to report back for class analysis of the diversity of the cabinet.

I am still seething at the way two prosperous white men congratulated each other on the way the Athenians believed in equality for all, just like they did. No word on whether Johnson and Wallace-Hadrill shared the Athenian belief that women, slaves and foreigners weren't really human beings...

You don't get that kind of chaps-like-us-smuggery with Mary Beard or Michael Wood.
