One for [personal profile] wellinghall, perhaps?

What might Lord Peter Wimsey hunt, shoot, or fish on foot, with only a couple of people, in Highland Scotland in 1927, at some point between November and March? Ideally in January/February. No financial, social, or technical limitations apply; canonically we know he fishes, shoots partridges, hunts foxes, and poaches rabbits.

It is pheasant shooting season round here at the moment but that is nowhere near Highland Scotland and I don't know how long it goes on for. But my impression of pheasant shooting is that it involves lines of guns and hordes of serfs like Eddie Grundy acting as beaters which might pose a problem for the "with only a couple of people" bit.

Driven pheasant shooting does. You can also have walked-up shooting - a few men with dogs and guns, walking along and shooting the birds that they flush.

Pheasant season is 1 Oct to 1 Feb, but their numbers thin out as you head north.
