Wimseyfic: Feeding the Vultures

Took a bit longer to finish off than I had hoped, as Easter holiday appears to have brought the phenomenon of 'aha! Now that you don't have to do anything, you are going to collapse' so my plans for a relaxing weekend of a bit of art and writing were replaced with a relaxing weekend of cleaning the bathroom very slowly and sewing a patch on the sofa because my brain revolted at the prospect of the screen. But tis done, and it was a lot of fun to writes a good old Harriet Vane-centric type of fic. I literally got the idea for this at 3am and jotted down the rough version. My current dodgy sleep is good for something, it seems!

Excellent. Only, if I am allowed a very minor nitpick, did they actually call it the British Library back in the day? Or was it just "The British Museum"? I don't actually know, to be honest!

Good point, I'll have to check! Especially as it plays a rather larger role in a different fic. I'm not sure when the name/governance changes as opposed to the building.

Is this the fic you were struggling to finish? Congratulations, if so. It's turned out very enjoyable. It's always nice to see some convincing Harriet, not to mention bonus Eiluned being supportively bolshy. I'm sorry you pay the price in lost sleep but the productivity boost is great for the rest of us!

It is! I had the basic outline fairly quickly and it was just writing it up, but the ending wasn't clear. I really didn't want Harriet and Peter to have to meet up again, given the story was largely complete once he came up with a solution to the problem. But it sorted itself out in the end.

The equinox is driving me nuts! All I ask is steady nighttime temperature and for it to get light at 4 or 6.30, but not in-between.

This is very nice! And it makes way for the bit in Have His Carcase where she decides that making nice with the press and putting herself forward is the best option, because they're going to write about her in any case.

Thank you! I was thinking a bit of that section in HHC, Harriet has good grounds to be cynical about the press and how this could go, unfortunately.
