It is incredible how much they fall down on the cheap stuff. What would a good script editor have cost in comparison to 5 mins of special effects? "someone in the writing room with a stable sense of idiom and register" sums up what is painfully lacking. I think some of the middle and later episodes improve on the first two in terms of plot, but the basic problems remain. It's a pity. I ought to have watched every episode five times over by now.
