All your data is belong to us

I have completed (and passed) the University's Information Security online test. It was as boring as you'd expect. I do have two comments.

(1) I am amused that "not surfing the internet at lunchtime" is of course the wrong answer as to how to avoid data security breaches. Work as no interest in stopping us surfing the web as long as we do it safely.

(2) I am a little puzzled that the test asked what the supervisory authority for data privacy is in Germany. I suppose it could have been a cunning ruse if all the offices in each EU country are called the same thing, except that even so they won't be called it in English. I suspect an C+P error...

Well done! I have yet to attempt it, though Monday will bring the rather more difficult task of attempting to persuade Faculty Board that academics should do it too...

I cannot imagine how that could possibly go wrong. Wait, no, I can imagine in great detail just how well that is going to go.

If I hadn't been off work sick today (again, this time literally so, thanks to the generosity of the 6yr old, and obviously precisely what I needed as I was just crawling out of the flu pit) I would have been doing online GDPR and Equality & Diversity training.

I also did the HR audit yesterday though given just how drained I was feeling I can’t speak for how much sense my answers may have made. I swear it gets bigger every year!

I missed having to do this by warrant of my contract expiring the same day as the deadline but the last thing I saw in my work email was my ex-boss having a blazing row with the head of IT about the computation biology folks having to do this... Given that I quite frequently listened to our sysadmin lecturing the IT folks about information security, I can kind of see his point, but still, he could have filled it in in less time than the furious emails took to write!

So very true.
