Lions and tigers and pine martens

This morning was brightened by video of a Swiss pine marten invading a football pitch. It is eventually caught and removed.

A man with the speed and skill to grab a pine marten and who clings on even after being bitten by it, is a man I’d want on my team. It was eventually caught a second time and removed by a gloved goalkeeper.

I'm mostly shocked by the way that they all just stand round looking at the pine marten, doing nothing. But the guys who caught it were brilliant.

Well they can't take their shirts off to throw over it, because that's a bookable offence, and we saw what happened when someone picked one up without hand protection ;-) And they're bloody fast! I admired the animal psychology approach of grabbing it from the side.

Marten-catching skills could be used to assess players' fitness to be on the team.

I did wonder how it would have fared on a rugby field.
