I adore the carriage scene beyond measure (perhaps helped by seeing a wonderful version of it in a stage production when I was 17/18), Emma is just so gloriously appalled that Elton can possibly be presuming to raise his hopes to her, and then to say that she encouraged him... It's amazing they can ever look one another in the face afterwards, really.
