In some respects, an argument for cutting it is that there isn't enough mpreg, as I am not terribly interested in mpreg, and so there are interesting scientific lectures and a bit of angst, and then I endeavour to forget it for several chapters. I need to face up to the fact that my fondness for the interesting scientific lectures does not compensate for having to tag a fic with mpreg, and just cut it. Wimsey will have a bad dose of dragon pox instead, requiring him to go and recuperate on the Mediterranean. There is no point in doing mpreg at length unless you are doing it for the trope-liking readers, and I wasn't.
On another note entirely, may I call upon your German historical linguistics brain? Because after a couple of weeks of two-way prepositions, I am increasingly convinced that the idea that the dative case is mostly about the indirect object is a simple version that elides a great deal more complexity, and that actually knowing the complexity behind it might actually make things make more sense. Because the dative is definitely not just hanging around being the indirect object, but doing a whole load of other stuff, and if in fact it has over the last couple of thousand year cannibalised various other things and there is an explanation for this you can point to on the internet or summarise, I should be very grateful!
