It's only on the mildly annoying scale really, but fingers do seem to bleed.

They're a menace. Every time I consider buying one - because they do grate really well - I remember trying desperately not to bleed all over aellairene's kitchen and, worse, her dinner.

I have three microplane graters and have never grated myself with any of them*. Mind you, I did try to sever a thumb with the bread knife this year, and I once broke a toe by dropping a kitchen chair onto it.

*And a safety device for them. But I also have a safety device for my mandolin and as it turned out it was just as well I wore my fingernails long in those days...

I have a silvery scar on one index finger from when the blade skidded off the pan forte...

I am so proud of my friends. It was New Year's and we were bound to see The Fellowship of the King (this event was some years ago.) And, given I was bleeding like a stuck pig, the designated first aider of the group put butterfly bandages on the finger, and said apologetically that it would scar.

No-one dreamed to suggest anyone needed to miss the show. Though it was a horridly bleeding cut.
