I can't imagine he left it for the early morning char, though it's possible that LPW had arranged for him to be out at the time and thus had to do it himself.
Ironically, I think HHC might have been difference in that Harriet, thinking All Was Over and no longer caring about giving Peter ideas, might have actually have phoned him in the first place.
