I think that it would be easier not to be hard on Peter (who after all is plainly not on top form even before the corpse turns up) if he showed a bit more consciousness about how things might be for Harriet as Harriet, rather than Harriet potentially suffering from his failings. He gets told that he doens't have to worry, it doesn't matter that things have gone a bit pear-shaped. But he doesn't think to say the same back to her, even though she's also thinking "bugger, this was not the best honeymoon idea ever and I'm to blame" (though no doubt this can be explained by his thinking that his own fears are irrational in the first place, and thus assuming that level-headed Harriet couldn't possibly feel the same).
But I am not supposed to be writing BHbadsex fic until I have ticked off others on the list first.
