This might really erase the Burden of Gratitude pretty efficiently, since unlike in the original it isn't a situation where Harriet could potentially have avoided the danger by thinking out the problem differently. No, Peter drove too fast and flipped the car into a ditch. Unarguably, 100% his fault. Like Lopezuna said, he's probably kicking himself for not plowing the car into an embankment the first time he took her to one of those out-of-the-way restaurants after her acquittal.
