Anyone care to claim their £5?

The book is Shabby Tiger, by Howard Spring.

“Here the earth was without depth, a skin drawn over the knotty vertebrae of the Pennines. Moorland stretched away on every hand, seamed with stony gullies, ruptured with harsh protuberant rocks, achieving for its gayest effect a clump here and there of silver birch, dwarfed beneath the immensity of the sky which, that day, was a shimmering blue suffused with milk. The tenderness of the sky, arched above the inchoate jumble of that feral landscape, had the nature of a miracle of kindliness.”

A passage which, though a good description of the Pennines, might best be described as atypical. More when I’ve finished it.

In other news:

- Henry VI, Part I was excellent. I look forward to the next two parts.

- I seem to have picked up a virus - or been weakened so the one I’ve had for the last year has re-emerged. Sore throat, need more sleep, will try and find a free day to be off sick this week.

- I have had no post for over a week. I know that stuff has been sent to me. Either the postman has lost his key for the steel box, or the sorting office has a secret strike, or someone has fraudulently ordered my mail to be re-directed - in which latter case the finger of suspicion points at an inside (although not necessarily the inside of the P.O.) job as everything with my address on it is shredded and goes in the food waste (pref. fish), and it’s hard to steal post from a big metal box without a key... I made a preliminary, "Er, what's going on?" on Friday, but I shall be following up tomorrow. It's my address, and my name, so an instant check of "Is there a re-direct on this?" doesn't sound too hard. Followed by, "Has my postman got big debts?"
