State of the Nineveh
Feb. 3rd, 2020 01:15 pm• My parents came for the weekend, which was very nice, though meant that I had less solitary downtime than I could have done with. We went for a walk at Blenheim on Saturday, being the best place I could think of locally with paved paths as it is so wet underfoot at the moment, and to see David Copperfield at the cinema yesterday, which was excellent. I think it’s the first use of theatre-style colour-blind casting I’ve seen like that in a film, and it was very effective.
• My blender has died. I would have liked it not to do this when I wanted to puree quince for a quince tart on Saturday night, as this took a long time to do badly by hand with a knife, potato masher, and electric whisk (I gave up before getting to the whisk stage).
• Mild work-out of legs in a walk plus more vigorous work-out of quince mashing for upper body left all of me incredibly achy yesterday. I had a bit of a bug a fortnight ago that I am suspicious was actually flu rendered mild by the vaccine, because it involved a lot of general achiness and my arms and legs still are when I do anything much by way of physical exertion. Though I still seem to be avoiding the cough going round locally.
• I am reading Pratchett’s Wintersmith, it is the absolutely perfect choice right now. Some actual winter would also be nice, things have been feeling ridiculously spring-like the past few days.
• Much as I have been enjoying The Goes Wrong Show it shows its LAMDA origins in the "Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society", given that frankly this level of incompetence is only rewarded by a BBC show if you want to Oxbridge. It ought to be the Footlights Goes Wrong. Yes, it's a minor niggle, but it does feel a little like the Haves laughing at the Have Nots.
