I have an ominous "coming down with a cold" feeling (please, please no; I've actually managed to be healthy so far this term), and the current WIP* is sulking in a corner, and I think I need something to stir my brain. So...

Tell me what you want a drabble on, and I shall endeavour to provide. You know the usual fandoms, though I am willing to have a go at something else if that's what you fancy**.

*The current WIP I am trying to write, I mean, as distinct from the many other WIPs waiting more-or-less patiently in a queue.

**NB This offer does not include the Aubrey/Maturin books. That is definitely Never Going To Happen, although I would like to read the Star Trek crossover in which Captain Kirk meets Diana Villiers, if anyone fancies writing it.

[ETA: That is a quite marvellous selection of prompts! Thank you (late-comers are still welcome). We kick off with Zombie Honeymoon.

Now added: Re-enacting Doctor Who, Alleyn and Troy's first date, Crookshanks/Ahasuerus, Harriet's advice to Josephine M. Bettany, Peter, Harriet, Troy and Alleyn, Peter and Lucius Malfoy, Andromeda and Tonks, Peter, Jack Maynard, and hot milk, Captain Kirk meets the Dowager Duchess of Denver, Bunter and young Saint-George, Peter, Harriet, and their brood visit Duke's Denver, and Kenton chatting up Harriet.]

I'm glad someone else has queues!

Hmm, prompts. Are you still doing HP? Something with Andromeda, at any time of her life. Prompt if you want to use it: feathers.

'Had we but world ernough and time -'

Peter, pouring sherry into a tumbler engraved with “A Present from Margate” was interrupted by an unearthly groan that seemed to come from beneath their feet. It was followed by what could only be Bunter’s voice indulging in most un-Bunter-like vocabulary, a heavy crash, and the pound of feet up the stairs, the slam of the cellar door, and a slight pause as the assumed perpetrator of the disturbance collected breath and composure before opening the door with an unreadable look in his eyes and the jagged remains of a bottle of the Cockburn 96 in his hand.

‘Excuse me, my lord. I'm afraid that we have found Mr Noakes.’

That is absolutely magnificent. I was bent double laughing (am now at least recovered enough to type, but still grinning like a loon).

Oh, that's wonderful! Especially the detail about the Cockburn '96, which somehow perfects the whole thing...

‘Oh, what a lovely night!’

The evening was chilly, and Alleyn was shivering inside his evening clothes. High overhead the stars glittered, and below them the lights of the ships twinkled on the river and there was Troy in blue Harris tweed looking at it all with shining eyes. He wondered if she would ever bring herself to like him even a little. He wrapped his scarf around his neck and offered his arm.

‘Come on, we’ve got an hour. Let’s go for a walk and enjoy it.’

‘Yes, all right. Though I’ve got to be back for the tug in 45 minutes.’

‘I won’t delay you. I wish I were coming with you. I’d much rather have your nice company than the prospect of Harry Gresham III, swindler and blackmailer.’

‘Are people really called Harry Gresham III?’

‘Believe it or not, but they are.’

They walked in silence along the quay. It was so ludicrously romantic a setting – the stars, the ship, the inevitable parting – if only he could have imagined a cine-camera whirring behind them there would have been nothing to do but take her in his arms and kiss her, but of course that would not work.

He saw her onto the tug, and squeezed her hand at parting.

‘Do look up my mother when you get home, won’t you? She’d love to meet you.’

‘I will.’ But he thought that she would not.

I don't know about vintage port. Glassing, however, I expect to be terminal.

1966

‘No, Doctor! The Treklops will never surrender!’

‘But Emperor, the Daleks are the most evil race in the galaxy! They will destroy your planet if you do not give them the Crown of Rauros. You must submit.’

‘Never!’

‘Exterminate! Exterminate!’

Screams filled the air as an up-turned silver dustbin rounded the corner of the stable block. The Emperor and his companions collapsed in paroxysms of agony and a hand raised a title card in front of the camera, “To Be Continued”.

Bunter handed the camera to Susan (playing the Doctor by right of the eldest), and lifted the Dalek case to reveal a small boy crouching on a skateboard. Sending the children running indoors for their tea, he followed with the slower steps of 79. The Duke met him on the terrace.

‘My God, Bunter, I don’t know where you get the energy. Thanks for the diplomacy over the croquet lawn, by the way; I thought the skateboard was an inspired touch. Now come and have a drink. Harriet’s back, and we’re toasting the first day of summer.’

It was quite impossible, thought Bunter, for life to be any better than this.

I feel this is a little unfair. For all we know, Nancy Meets a Nazi could be a devestating tale of social realism...
