More and more I simply cut to the chase and think "it is plain corruption". Not even a fig leaf of trickle-down economics - which these days just means that rich people's urine runs in the rivers as well as poor - but shoveling cash to themselves and their friends.
Though admittedly there is some insane ideology lurking there, too. Otherwise why the obsession with fracking, which the fracking companies have lost interest in? They could create jobs and shovel cash to their friends by investing in renewables through dodgy companies with no experience. Ed. oh wait, I just remembered JRM has investments in various fossil fuel companies.
