(1) Dear Google, Just because I cannot spell "Troll-løype" does not mean I meant to search for "trollop". Couldn't you at least have suggested "Trollope"? Which, ironically, is what you do if I spell "Troll-løype" correctly.

(2) Embellished. Embellished is my anti-word of the week. I see the word "embellished" in connection with clothing I want to call down a plague off moths upon the perpetrator.

(3) "Papabile", lit. "Popeable".

This post is brought to you by wondering whether I might go skiing after all. Probably not, but the thought has popped up.

Google is now completely useless for searching for foreign languages. Presumably that is not some form of troll racing? My Norwegian is not what it was.

Oh good, I will remember embellished for the next fashion retailer staff magazine.

It’s lit. the Troll Trail (løype being the word for XC tracks/trails, with spor being the cut grooves. My Norwegian consists of about 10 ski-related words), which is a 160km trail that goes from somewhere north of the Rondane to Lillehammer. There is also a Troll Ski Marathon conducted along the 95km closest to Lillehammer. I seem to be finding myself reconsidering whether I might go skiing in late March after all. I am not sure. Part of me thinks I ought to spend the time in solemn contemplation of the future instead.

I am sure the future can be contemplated just as well while skiing, solemnly or otherwise.

I was thinking it meant "run", which it still might.

I've vaguely assumed that løype is somehow related to loppets and to løbe, but my knowledge of etymology is non-existent. Over to you!
