I am watching the film of The Phantom of the Opera. It occurs to me that the Phantom is really not the world's greatest planner if he thinks that he can make Christine an astonishing opera singer and she won't be someone (else's) mistress before he can say knife. It's not exactly a failsafe way to bring her to his arms (unless he was counting on her being shocked by the predations of an elderly roue and running to him for protection).

Also, Gerald Butler does not exactly project a man driven mad by suffering*, for a start being handicapped by looking far too young and healthy. The Music of the Night seemed to be about a chap showing a young woman how proud he was of his exciting use of candles in interior design. He then proceeds to do the compulsary 'feeling up of an overwhelmed and swooning woman' bit in gloves. I mean, she's wearing several layers of film!underwear. Maybe he just likes the feel of steel through leather.

It also seems to have given me yet another idea for a novel that I am not going to get around to writing. Maybe I can break a leg and have to spend months recuperating.

*Although at least unlike the vampires in Twilight** fighting off the alluring smell of tasty human blood he doesn't look constipated.

**Thoughts to follow later.
