Return of the Covid-19

It's a good thing that I didn't do a triumphant post yesterday about how much better I was feeling, as after a Saturday and Sunday in which I felt a lot better, and 36 hours without a fever, back it comes and I have spent the morning on a sofa in the warm fleecey trousers once more, under a blanket watching Spirited Away. I remain still in no way a serious case, and am not concerned, but it is getting very boring, the more so because it is very clear how easy it is to overdo it when I feel brighter and get knocked back. I could also do without the bonus minor congestion symptoms now greeting me with a headache when I wake up. I also note that I logged onto work email for 10 minutes this morning thinking that surely I could handle a bit as I did Thurs/Fri last week, and on the grounds of that experience I feel 100% confident in saying that Boris Johnson is not in fact running the country, and that if he is it is not a positive sign of his dedication, it is vanity, because if he bad enough to be in hospital he is in no way fit to be making decisions given the gravity of the situation. In other news, I give you lambs on a roundabout. *Good but - because - very weird.

Do please look after yourself (also, quite agree re: Johnson. I probably pushed my luck more than I should have, and made a couple of silly mistakes as a result - except they just involved muddling up some email lists, because I'm not Prime Minister...)

Take care of yourself. I'm very glad it's so mild and you only feel knocked-back rather than truly awful, but I quite agree with you that the PM shouldn't be trying to pretend he's not incapacitated (the prospect of Raab making the decisions instead cannot be said to fill me with joy, but when Johnson made the decisions, he botched it completely, so it's hard to see how Raab could be significantly worse).

I am very relieved that I don't feel I have to be constantly monitoring my breathing, but my cheeriness that it is just like ordinary flu, while still there in theory, is getting a bit stretched by it getting really boring, and also the desperate state of my carpets, which really need hoovering. I hope that Tashi is showing no sighs.

I am with you on Raab and Johnson. Johnson is bad enough at the best of times, can Raab really be worse than Johnson + inpatient coronavirus? Though I see that now he in intensive care, so the downplaying is clearly over. May he make a good recovery and learn a salutory lesson.

I, too, am finding that a good day is followed by a very low-energy one. And concentration is not easy - I am just beginning to be able to do Sudoku again! No, Boris should give up all pretence of running the country and focus on getting well.

I'm sorry that you are also going through it, I hope you recover soon. I am finding it much more frustrating than a cold, when I can often still *do* things, even if I am stopping to blow my nose every 5 minutes. But this time has definitely not been spent doing anything like writing or even much reading.

Thanks. It is very tedious, but I clearly need to be strict with myself about not doing more when I feel brighter - it is easy to relax when feeling rubbish, harder when not so bad, especially as I'm accustomed to sometimes making myself ignore the fact I'm not feeling on top form.

I'm fine, thanks: if I had the thing at all (I certainly had something I'd never had before, which seemed to be trying it on with my lungs, but never quite got there) it was very mild go of it. I am plotting my phased release into the community...

I don't know how you're doing on a food-and-other-supplies basis, but if you're facing any shortages, let me know. I can easily cycle up to yours and drop something off at the door, with bonus wave through the window.

I have been doing OK for food, and got a delivery on Friday, but I might be asking you or white_hart later in the week if it goes on, not least because I would like to be able to keep myself away from the supermarket as much as possible until I have a sufficiently long period clear to feel that I'm not putting anyone at risk.

While key workers are doing all sorts of essential work, I've been sitting tucked up at home writing about cultural heritage, so it would be a pleasure to be able to do something useful.

Thank you! As I said to naraht, it might be that I take you up on that later in the week. I won't need anything substantial, but some bread and milk before Easter might be a good idea, and I want to keep myself away from people until I have several days without any fever symptoms if I can. I hope you're doing OK.

Yes, I'm seeing lots of people posting about it both lingering and being quite up and down in the recovery process.

I think it is ludicrous that Johnson is still getting his red box. If he's ill, he shouldn't be making important decisions. And if he isn't ill, he shouldn't be in hospital.

I have found it quite reassuring to see other people going through a similar experience.

I see events have overtaken my replies, and Johnson is certainly not leading things now. May he make a swift recovery.

Thanks. I could really do without it, but feeling guilty at not being at work and then acutely aware of how I couldn't work is definitely the better option.
