Every since I looked up famous Morricone scores to work out which one was being musically referenced in episode 16 of Nirvana in Fire*, YouTube likes to select them for me (although as [personal profile] carbonel points out, the Magnificent 7 is actually by Bernstein). And occasionally I play them, because they are just tremendous. Maybe one day I should see one or two of the films. Anyway, in the meantime here is some music.

I want the job of the woman who gets to do the singing and whistling. I also would have liked to have gone to that concert.

*The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Instantly recognisable as the one that goes wa-a-a-a-aaa, but alas the title not instantly springing to mind. Also, thanks to the person in the episode comments - which annoyingly I didn't see until later - who points out that there's an extra Sergio Leone reference in that the mysterious swordsman is a man with no name...

I've been noticing that quote for the last couple of episodes and thought it was just coincidence. Clearly, nothing is ever coincidence!

I went on youtube to find out what I had been humming while chopping runner beans and it was the theme tune to Mr Benn.

Subconscious needs more dramatic better theme tunes.

The M7 theme has been lodged in my head for decades - I saw the film at an early and impressionable age. *G* HIlariously every damn time I go horse riding I find myself humming it sotto voce as I mount up.

Equally so - viewing at an impressionable age - for the Eastwood movies. I blame my dad. Suffice to say my introduction to music for entertainment was not the chart/pop music of the day but western theme music.

Also can I just say I love the body hanging from the ceiling in the second video. Well played, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, well played!

Just to be pedantic, I should point out that the Magnificent Seven theme is by Elmer Bernstein, not Ennio Morricone. But when I hear it, I think of cigarettes, because I grew up at a time when cigarette commercials were allowed (and common) on TV, and that was the theme for Marlboros.
