Watching a bit of last weekend's Skate America before bed. This poor teenager may be making a bit of a meal of his free skate with falls all over the place, but that is as nothing compared to the absolute butchering of extracts from 'Phantom of the Opera' he is skating to. It sounds like sentences pulled at random from the CD. Null points!

Did you see the Phantom of the Opera dressage horse at the Olympics? You could compare and contrast. At the time, I heard an interview with a bloke who was a bit bemused his composing/arranging career had ended up specialising in putting together music for horses to do dressage to with all the beats in the right place for the demands of the routine. It sounds like it is a job that demands professional skill, probably that young skaters can't afford.

Many of us cut our own music since the advent of Audacity, which makes it very easy - and, of course, very easy to do badly! It is much better than the old days of splicing cassette tapes....

Doing it themselves would explain a lot. It wouldn't have been half so bad if it hadn't been music with lyrics, but that made it so noticeable.

I did not see that! I didn't know that dressage was done to modern music at all. Did the interviewee say how on earth he ended up in such a role...?
