Anyone got a post-2002 5 door 1.25 Ford Fiesta they want to sell me? No? Nor, it seems, has the rest of the world. It is very annoying.

There's one due in Abingdon (part-ex on an 09 reg, I guess). Might be worth a look?

That is a bit more like it.

I wonder if this is the bump I am hitting. I want to pay cash, but not eat too much into my deposit, so I am looking at slightly earlier dates for preference, and I'm getting the impression that those have already been traded in.

I think there will be a lot more in over the next couple of weeks - the supply does slow down just before the new registration. Although my sense is that the 3-door and 1.4 litre Fiestas are more common, and the main dealerships are likely to auction anything over about 5 years old rather then selling it themselves.

I hadn't thought about the new registration - I shall be encouraged.

Have you tried fish4cars.co.uk? I found my Fiesta through them, and they do seem to have quite a few on the site at the moment. Of cousre, I was only looking in my area - I don't know your postcode so I can't say if they have lots in your area.

They're lots cheaper than they were when I bought too, *sadface*

I hadn't, but I shall. Though judging by postcodes and availability, I wonder if my best choice isn't just getting my parents to do the hunting for me.

My sister is also mourning their being cheaper now (though she wouldn't have wanted to wait a year).

If I bought mine now, I'd have paid about £500 less. But then I wouldn't have had it to play with since October, so...

If you can afford it, I'd seriously think about getting a 1.4 litre, if I were you. My friend has an 03 reg 1.3 litre 3 door, and I have a 55 reg 1.4 litre 3 door, and mine goes like the clappers, whereas hers is a bit, well, gutless when she accelerates. I did read that the newer 1.25 litre was actually better than the older 1.3 litre engines, though.

My impression is that the 1.3 is sadly lacking. The 1.25, though, is another case entirely and very nippy. The 2006 one I had a go in was certainly pretty swift off the mark, although I admit that the most recent car I drove was a VW Polo, which only reached 70 if you put your feet through the floor ran with it.

I broke The Pact to come here re: cars, because I forgot to say last night that I got mine through Gumtree in the end. I think there's bound to be one around there somewhere. Also, it may be further off, but just after Easter we're going to be rapidly approaching the end of the academic year and there's bound to international students wanting to sell theirs on. Possibly.
