Do marketing people have a gene that makes them incapable of appreciating how the rest of the population is likely to react to a slogan?

Somehow I can’t help feeling that the Marks and Spencer Simply Fuller Longer food range is not long for this world.

ETA: There is even an advert in the M&S perv voice.

The U.S. Census has started collecting information. They had a couple of trucks parked near City Hall in Jersey City. The trucks are labeled "Census 2010: It's In Our Hands," so hurrah for the Safe Sex Census.

That's better than the pharmaceutical marketing tschotchke that came out here a few years ago: a Viagra kleenex box.

With the devil man marketing image (http://seniorjournal.com/NEWS/Sex/ViagraDevil4-11-16.jpg) on the side.

And the marketers didn't understand why it was funny.

I do not want to think about a Viagra kleenex box, but I'm sure the devil had a hand in it...

I have to admit, I was imagining Charlotte Green reading it as a cutting on the News Quiz.

I sometimes wonder if advertising people have a bet on as to just how long they can use a proposed slogan before the clients twig.

The answer with this one, obviously, is 'after the campaign goes out, and possibly not even then.'

The trick is for the client not to twig until after you've been paid.

Aha! Morning brings success. What makes it even better, I think, is the way that on the logo the word 'simply' is tipped up on end and squished up against the rest of it, so it says FULLERLONGER. My cup runneth over.

Yes, I noticed that, but couldn't find a suitable image. I'm only amazed that they didn't work "satisfying" in there somewhere.

Oh no... Or could it be a really cunning attempt to garner viral publicity?

I am reliably told that the City University of Newcastle (or maybe Northumbria) got quite away into a big rebranding exercise before noticing something about their initials...

Could be viral publicity, but it would be absolutely the wrong brand to do it for if it got out that it was on purpose, I think.
