My day has just been enormously improved by the second episode (alas, I missed the first) of Warhorses of Letters. It is hard to improve on the BBC's summary: "Napoleon and Wellington's horses exchange love letters against the backdrop of the Napoleonic wars."

... who is introduced in the first episode with the disclaimer "sorry but it is his name smiley face!" And he has a natural quiff that he doesn't have to do ANYTHING to.

Is it the first time that sadomasochistic fantasies have appeared on radio 4?

There is no way I shall not be buying the CD. I am gutted to have missed the start.

Is it the first time that sadomasochistic fantasies have appeared on radio 4?

I guarantee they have made an appearance in an Afternoon Play, potentially in a way that made them seem incredibly boring. Although possibly not equine sadomasochistic fantasies.

Also, even before having listened, I can't help wondering if it has been nominated for Yuletide.

Are nominations actually happening yet? I've seen lots about how they'll work, but I don't think I've seen the announcment they are live.

I posted a link to it last week after I heard the first episode. Outrageous. I hope someone does write it for Yuletide

I found it via a rec on my Heyer list. There needs to be a comm where people post recs to BBC shows like this. Having recently acquired access to high speed internet at home, I was laughing my head off listening to this and a few other shows.

This sounds absolutely ridiculous, and therefore unmissable.

Oh my horsey God!

I need to re-read Judith Tarr's Writing Horses now just in case I get matched on this for Yuletide.

Re-listening. It's just wonderful.

I like the idea that there is a book about writing horses - presumably this is a riposte to the horse-as-self-powered-car fantasy beast of burden.

Listened to it last night. I was being alternately amused and boggled by the thought that I was listening to international equine sadomasochistic fantasies on Radio 4, when Oh! the retreat from Moscow!
