Back at work, in the rain, after a brilliant week in the company of [livejournal.com profile] azdak walking in the area around Altaussee. It was sunny, surprisingly full of people in dirndls and lederhoser, and with absolutely beautiful scenery below the cut.

Like this - the Toplitzsee, used by the Nazis as a marine testing station and containing quite a lot of war paraphenalia, but not the reputed gold:

Altaussee from the path above eastern end of the lake (covered by early morning clouds) and the Dachstein glacier in the distance:

It was really lovely, the weather was perfect for walking, and just at the end of the season so that things were open, but there were relatively few people.

I am very jealous too. We were Do-Re-Mi in the wheelbarrow carnival on Sunday and I shall tell spouse that the Austrian mountain backdrop he painted in the shed was remarkably authentic.

It really does look like the film scenery, though with fewer nuns.

I hope people were impressed with teh wheelbarrow.

It was really good hiking country, not least in that it was pretty well signposted as well as having fabulous views.

The Sound of Music is on at Regent's Park theatre. Maybe you could go if you are missing Austria.

I don't know that I'm missing it that much ;-) (Actually, I've seen and enjoyed the stage show, but the weather has got a tad chilly for outdoor theatre and me.)

Gorgeous. I did always enjoy the scenery porn in the Sound of Music credits.
