I am in Edinburgh visiting my sisters, and new nephew. I've never claimed to be the most up-to-the-minute person when it comes to entertainment, but it is a bit much to be beaten to Skyfall by someone who is only a fortnight old today and had his first trip to the pictures on Tuesday. I shall be going on Satuday evening.

It is, as ever, colder in Edinburgh than in Oxford, which is a major reason I don't want to move here. But I came prepared in a big coat, and have bought myself a slightly more practical (less swirly) new one from Zara. It has little metal studs all over the sleeves and would not be completely out of place in a British 70s science-fiction television series. It is much nicer than it sounds.

November* brings [community profile] picowrimo, which I shall be doing again, but not until Monday.

*Ritual "how is November here already?"

There is no such thing as too many coats.

Once the nephew gets to about 18 months, they won't be able to go to the cinema again for years (apart from the hell that is family screenings of certificate U films on a Saturday morning) and you will catch up.

That reminds me - I'm in Oxford next weekend - would you be around at all to meet for a coffee? I'm busy on the Saturday but ought to be free on the Sunday afternoon.

Hope new nephew is fun!

I'm free next Sunday afternoon, so it would be great to meet up.

New nephew is a lot of fun, at least from the perspective of the person not having to feed him at 2am.

I know - I try to deny it, but the reality insists.

Living in Edinburgh is worth the cold (and the wind) - one gets used to it...
(apart from everything else it has the Filmhouse (http://www.filmhousecinema.com/)!)

The cinemas really are amazing - the Filmhouse programme for November is at my elbow and I've been looking at it with envy.
