Further to my last, I have just tried on the most amazing pair of glasses in the entire world. They are so light they seem to float on the face as if they are made of anti-gravity material. The price is probably ones soul.

I've just bought a car (and driven it home). You will be wearing your glasses more often than I will be driving my car. Therefore whatever they cost, they will be cheap by comparison.

There you go. Sorted.

How much would you feel happy to pay for a winter coat? Probably a good bit more than £70 - but you wear your glasses all the time.

Comfortable glasses that neither rub, press nor fall off your nose are worth a good chunk of your soul at the very least.

And see ye not yon braid, braid road,
That lies across the lily leven?

The mystery of why the Queen of Elfland asks Thomas Rhymer if he can't see the roads is solved - he'd forgotten his glasses.

Hurrah for new glasses, even if they do cost a fortune!

It's fair to say that even if I don't go for these, my budget has increased significantly! And I genuinely need new frames, as my existing ones are too heavy.

If they cost as much as a used car, you can always use the excuse I made up when I bought my last pair ($600 for frames and because my prescription is most definitely not boring, I'm pretty much looking at a grand to start, regardless): I'll be wearing these every day for at least four years, so that's ($1400/(365*4))=significantly less than the cost of a cup of coffee/day.

And if you love them, you might even be able to just get replacement lenses next time you need a changeover, which amortises the cost of the frames over an even longer period of time. I got almost nine years out of a beloved set of frames that way, so they ended up costing almost nothing! Or so I told myself.

Crikey, I'm glad that I have a boring prescription! That's a hell of a lot for lenses. I hope that your frames are nice!

These would buy a considerably worse car, but you could just get one. I shall also note the lens argument - my prescription is pretty stable, so I'd been counting on having them for some years and had then suddenly thought "But what if my eyes did get worse and you'd spent all that money?" In some ways, I am basically trying to create my last frames, which I absolutely loved and retired wrecked after 7 years.
