DW post is a Cry for Help

I appear to be writing Kylo Ren fic. Save me!

Last weekend I bought The Last Jedi on DVD. It's really a very expensive public education film about the danger of cults.

Much as I've always been a sucker for tormented baddies, I suspect it is being over-generous to the characterisation to be reminded of Claggart's line from the libretto of Billy Budd, 'the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness comprehends it and suffers.'* Nonetheless, it is very apt.

Question: in which work of popular culture have I recently been reminded of the line 'build a Heaven in Hell's despair', because it certainly wasn't Blake.** It will probably turn out to be Twilight or similar.

*I'd be surprised if the biblical original hadn't cropped up at some point in contemplation of the Force, though.

**Hell for me will be the pit of boiling oil while an amateur actor reads the lesser works of Blake and Wordsworth for all eternity.

A musical friend of mine once commented that if he goes to Hell when he dies, he’s pretty sure he will be given a group of tone-deaf singers and made to direct them in the Ring Cycle.

Sounds like a pretty good eternity! Though I think that there should also be some nice alcohol of his choice to go with the chocolate cake.

If I had to pick one person that I follow who would be least likely to write Kylo Ren fic, you'd definitely be in the running.

Admittedly it is Kylo Ren fic for which the notes contain the line "Being a Dark apprentice didn't come with much by way of transferable skills."

I am probably one of the people least likely to read a Kylo Ren fic, but I would read that one (and probably will).

Only 48 hour ago I was thinking I was one of the people least likely to write it! At the moment it rather veers in tone between anguish, cynism and blatant sarcasm on the part of the narrator. Which I suppose is not that out of keeping with the film, but could do with some tidying up.

Kylo Ren does 'Undercover Boss' on Saturday Night Live (USA), where he wears a blond wig and says he's Matt, a radar technician. It goes as well as you'd expect!

I can't save you, because I'd actually like to read said fic and am looking forward to it. As uneven as I thought *The Last Jedi* was, those Rey/Kylo scenes were on fire. I can't remember the last time I wished so desperately for a ship that was so blatantly wrong.

The film has some significant pacing and other issues, but I've found they actually annoy me less on successive rewatches, because I know they are there and can just shrug my shoulders, whereas first time round I was just irritated. The Rey/Kylo scenes were perfect first time and remain so. Illicit finger-touching! It rings all the Spike/Buffy bells of my youth.
