My face hates me because I had a filling replaced 23 hours ago and while that part of my jaw is absolutely fine, my temporomandibular joints are very unhappy indeed after the efforts of holding my mouth open. So I have spent today in lots of meetings (talking does not help) interspered with holding a microwaved wheat pillow to my face. Though at least tonight I get a proper dinner rather than porridge eaten very carefully, as I had an awful lot of local anaesthetic* and the feeling in my face didn't start coming back for nearly four hours. And what with wobblyness due to mixed eating, extra walking for the bus etc. today was not the greatest. But such things can always be an awful lot worse, and hopefully that's it for the next decade or so (previous filling had lasted 20 years).

And please can we have a sensible national Covid policy?? The current state of things is absolute madness.

*On request because I am a wimp, but it turns out that I also need a lot of it, as I could distinctly feel his initial check even after he'd given me a bit extra in the first place. At least I didn't feel the third injection...

Owowow, you are a heroine to have gone into work instead of curling up in bed with your hot wheat pillow and a sleeping pill. I hope everything feels fine tomorrow.

As someone who is red-headed enough to need the 20% extra anesthetic that is genetically indicated, I'm wondering if you are a fellow ginger.

The last dentist appointment I had was with a new dentist who objected to my "yes I can still feel it but it is fine" and insisted on injecting me again because "No that is not good" and according to her, I shouldn't be able to feel anything. No dentist or hygienist has ever said that before or implied that the point is not to suffer the unavoidable hurting.

No-one has ever told me that before! They inject me and the injection hurts a lot and then the drilling hurts. That is how it is. I always assumed that if I didn't have the injection that hurts, the drilling would hurt even more, but I did not know it was possible for all the hurting to go away or that a dentist would care about it hurting me because it always does! How could I have known that?

Also when we went as a family, Middle Sister and Dad never had an injection at all so having one was being a wimp already.

I had a hygienist who got cross with me because I cried all the way through once.

Sorry, that was supposed to be a reply to comment not reply to post, which it now looks like it is.
